Shopify and WordPress Done Right

Platform-built does not mean generic. We take Shopify and WordPress further than most agencies know to go.

Shopify and WordPress power a massive share of the web for good reason — they are reliable, well-supported, and give non-technical teams the autonomy to manage content and products without developer help. But the gap between a default installation and a high-performing, well-designed, properly optimised site is enormous. JTS builds Shopify stores and WordPress sites that are custom-designed, technically sound, and set up to grow. We have worked with both platforms extensively and we know exactly where they excel, where they need careful handling, and how to push them further than out-of-the-box themes allow.

Shopify: Built for Revenue

A Shopify store is a sales machine. Every decision — from how products are organised to how the checkout flows to how abandoned carts are recovered — has a measurable impact on revenue. We design and build Shopify stores with that in mind. Custom themes built from scratch or carefully customised from a quality base, designed to reflect your brand and optimised for conversion.

We handle the full setup: product catalogue architecture, collection structure, metafield schemas, app selection, and the tricky integrations (ERP, inventory systems, loyalty programs, marketing platforms). We also build custom Shopify apps and backend functionality when the platform's standard capabilities are not enough.

For established stores looking to improve, we offer performance and conversion audits — a detailed review of what is slowing the store down or creating friction in the purchase path, with a prioritised list of improvements.

  • Custom Shopify app development

WordPress: Flexible and Fully Owned

WordPress is the right platform when you need a high degree of content flexibility, when SEO control matters, when you want to own your infrastructure, or when you are building something that does not fit neatly into an e-commerce model. We build custom WordPress sites on top of the block editor or headless architectures depending on what the project demands.

We do not use cheap page builders that produce bloated code and create maintenance nightmares. Custom block development, properly structured templates, and clean PHP give you a site that loads fast, scores well in search, and is a pleasure for your content team to manage.

WooCommerce extends WordPress for e-commerce and is a strong choice for businesses that want deep customisation of the purchase experience, complex product configurations, or a platform they fully control. We build and extend WooCommerce stores for clients across retail, services, and digital products.

  • Gutenberg block editor customisation

Content Management Your Team Will Actually Use

The best CMS is the one your team uses confidently without calling a developer every time a page needs updating. We spend real time on the content management experience — designing editing interfaces that are clear, labelled sensibly, and match the way your team thinks about your content.

We provide documentation and training so your team is self-sufficient on day one. And we build guardrails into the CMS where they matter: layout zones that stay on-brand, image fields with dimension guidance, character limits on fields that have display constraints. The site stays looking good even after dozens of content updates.

Migration and Platform Transitions

Moving from a legacy platform — or from one CMS to another — is always more complex than it looks. We handle these migrations carefully. Content mapping, URL structure preservation, 301 redirect strategy, image migration, and SEO continuity are all part of the plan. We do not migrate a site and leave your search rankings to recover on their own.

We have migrated sites from Squarespace, Wix, Webflow, Magento, and custom CMSs to both Shopify and WordPress. Each migration gets a thorough pre-launch checklist and a post-migration monitoring period.

FAQ

Common questions

Shopify or WooCommerce — which should we use?
Shopify is the better default for most product-based retailers. It is faster to maintain, the infrastructure is managed for you, and the ecosystem of apps is excellent. WooCommerce makes more sense if you need deep customisation of the purchase flow, complex product configurations, or if you strongly prefer to own the entire stack. We will help you make the right call for your specific situation.
Can you redesign an existing Shopify or WordPress site without starting from scratch?
Yes. A redesign without a rebuild is often the right approach — preserving the content structure and platform configuration while replacing the design. We assess the existing setup first and recommend whether to work with what is there or start fresh based on the technical quality of the current build.
Do you work with existing themes or only build custom ones?
Both. For Shopify, quality paid themes like Dawn or well-regarded third-party themes can be a strong starting point that reduces cost. For WordPress, we tend to build custom because most themes carry too much bloat. We will tell you which approach makes sense for your budget and requirements.
What ongoing support do you provide after launch?
We offer monthly retainers that cover updates, plugin and theme maintenance, security patches, and content edits. For Shopify stores especially, the platform evolves regularly and having someone who knows your site watch over it is worth the peace of mind. See our Support & Retainers page for details.
